New England Rum Punch
Hey football fans!  We’re back with another round of Football Foodies, a group where a bunch of bloggers gets together to share all of our favorite recipes during the season!  If you remember my last post, Chowder Stuffed Jalapeño Poppers, you’ll remember that my husband is from New England and is a Pats fan, so I’m repping his team in this little round up :)  So of course when I learned this one was “team themed” I turned to him for some advice on what New Englanders loved…New England Rum PunchWell that proved to be not so helpful because his response was “lobsters, but I guess you can get those anywhere” LOL… I suggested lobster rolls, to which he responded that he had only ever had one once and it was at McDonald’s.  I mean.  really.  What am I supposed to do with that?  I had already used chowder in my last post, so that was out.  So what did I do?  I turned to my BFF Phi, who is a colossal blogging success (she has a cookbook y’all!) and asked her “what do I DO!?”  New England Rum Punch

She brilliantly suggested “well is there a cocktail they enjoy up there?”  UMM brilliant.  Y’all know I love me some cocktails.  I still make these Sidecars for my husband often because he absolutely loves them.  So I did a little research and found Boston Rum Punch.  It’s literally the simplest drink ever and is so refreshing and delicious, I just kept.making.them.  Multiple days in a row.  Yes, that good.  The background info on them I found was really interesting; that and the basic recipe that inspired me (though mine is an adaptation) can be found here.  This drink was perfect for me because I detest sweet drinks.  This was tart and not sweet (though would perhaps be sweeter if you used a different lemonade, I used Simply Lemonade).  If you like sweeter cocktails, at an ounce or so of simple syrup or use a sweeter lemonade as a base.New England Rum Punch

Be sure to look at all the blogger’s recipes below this recipe!  Last month we shared our favorite tailgating recipes, and now we are sharing more than 60 recipes ideas for celebrating on game day. Click on their links below to join in!

New England Rum Punch

Author:
The Elements
  • 3 oz. rum (I used spiced rum)
  • 7 oz. lemonade
  • Juice from ½ lemon
  • Garnish: pinch of nutmeg for each and some fresh thyme sprigs
Procedure
  1. Add rum, lemonade and lemon juice to your shaker, add a hefty dose of ice (I have a Boston shaker so I used the glass part to fill my liquids and then filled my metal part to about ⅓ way up with ice).
  2. Shake vigorously.
  3. Fill two glasses about ½ full with crushed ice.
  4. Strain into glasses, sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg, and stick a few sprigs of thyme in it and enjoy!
The Verdict
I loved this drink! As I said, it's a bit on the tart side, so if you like a sweeter cocktail then add some simple syrup or sugar, or you can use a sweeter lemonade (I used Simply Lemonade). I loved to stick a straw in this and sip it. So refreshing!!

I about died laughing. Lobster rolls at McDonalds, LOL, your hubby is funny!
This punch sounds absolutely delicious, and I love that it’s an alternative to drinking beer at games. I’d much rather be drinking this than a beer.
